The place of deposition of one of the largest carbon deposits on the globe is soil. It is calculated at approx. 2300 GtC, with the last decades characterized by a negative annual balance in the circulation of carbon in this element of ecosystems (soil has become a surplus CO2 emitter). Balancing this cycle, or even increasing the carbon deposit in soils, is a prerequisite for an effective fight against increasing the CO2 content in the atmosphere.

FIELDS OF RESEARCH
The scope of the topic includes research on:

  • the behaviour of organic matter in the soils of areas under anthropogenic pressure,
  • conditions for stabilizing carbon circulation in the environment.
